Social Work

Most of the children in Sri Lanka do not have any meaningful leisure activities after school, as there are no out-of-school care facilities or structured institutional leisure activities. Guided and instructed leisure activities are still a privilege of the upper class of Sri Lanka, where children can also enjoy good school education. LANKAStreet Soccer aims to encourage children from all the layers, especially from the lower class with social street working, to participate in LANKAStreet Soccer.

Contents of the project

1. Football as a contribution to the physical and psychological development of children and adolescents

2. Promoting solidarity, self-esteem and mutual respect

3. Using football according to the age, interest and abilities for the whole development through continuous, progressive learning

4. Sport as an opportunity for socialization, cooperation, respect, friendship and social integration

Methodology

The planned activities are carried out daily in different training groups regionally during a week. After this, the methodology should be adapted locally as required.

The workshops are structured according to the age groups and learning processes. The training helps to improve both the learned techniques and methods, as well as to build up and maintain endurance.

The activities form the learning process for social development, as the participants develop various skills such as autonomy, cooperation and social participation in the sports.

Tournaments are held for children and young people taking part in the workshops, but also for foreign groups. This helps to integrate children and adolescents into the project.
